Carrie Underwood Offers Sweet Message of Sympathy to Miranda Lambert After Her Dog's Death

From Country Living

  • On Thursday, October 22, one of Miranda Lambert's beloved rescue dogs, Waylon, passed away, and she shared the news in a heartbreaking Instagram post.

  • Fans and fellow country stars, including Carrie Underwood, Ashley Monroe, and Holly Williams, quickly offered their love and support in the comments.

It’s no secret that Miranda Lambert loves dogs (and animals of all kinds!). After all, the “Bluebird” singer founded MuttNation in 2009 to help homeless pups find happy, loving homes. Before she founded the organization, however, she rescued two fur babies of her own. Heartbreakingly, one of those golden retriever siblings passed away on Thursday, October 22.

Miranda shared a sincere tribute to her furry friend in the caption, as well as the inspiring story of how he came into her life:

Today I lost one of my best friends. My old pal Waylon. I found him and his sister on the side of the road in Oklahoma in January 2008. They were abandoned, starving, and freezing nearly to death. I was listening to Jessi Colter and Waylon Jennings at the time me and mom saw them and pulled over to pick them up. I took them straight to the vet and she told me that the little boy was not doing too well (malnourished and dehydrated ) because whatever they had found to eat while they were homeless, he always let her eat first. He did that nearly his whole life. She said he probably wouldn’t make it but he did. For almost 13 years. He was a rock in our family and always held down the fort. He lived his life with no fences. The way we all want to live. He was a farm dog through and through and retired to Nashville life riding on the bus with mama to go home to Texas for Christmas every year. I’m so thankful for the time we had with him and I’m thankful for the rest of the time we have with his sister Jessi. I'm so glad my husband @brendanjmcloughlin got to know him in his final years.💙 We are heartbroken but happy that he is running across the rainbow bridge right now and will be waiting for us when we get there. 🌈 Dogs change your life. The bond is something that can’t be described unless you have lived it. Thank you @sarahananney @julianentwig and @t_man_photo for being his other moms and dad and taking such care of him when I was gone.

Before closing her post, Miranda took the time to also thank the team of doctors that had been working with Waylon, hinting that he had been declining over the past few years.

Knowing just how painful it is to lose a pet, fans from around the world flocked to Miranda’s comments section to offer condolences, love, and support. But perhaps even more special were the messages of support from Miranda's fellow country stars.

"😢...sending lots of love and hugs," Carrie Underwood wrote.

Fellow singer Holly Williams added, "Oh my holy heavens girl I am so so so sorry, losing a dog is incredibly painful. I miss my first lab everyday. Jessi was with my mom all day today she is still killing it on every level, such a hero! Praying for y’alls hearts ❤️😢"

“Nothing like the love of a dog😔 so sorry, girl💔 praying for y’all,” Brittany Aldean (wife of Jason Aldean) wrote.

“Big handsome boy, he took care of everybody so well for so long,” singer Ashley Monroe (of the Pistol Annies) commented, followed by a prayer emoji.

“I’m so sorry! He was the sweetest puppy,” singer (and one of Miranda's songwriting partners) Natalie Hemby wrote.

“Sorry buddy. I don’t wanna even think about losing our boy. Love to you all,” Randy Houser chimed in.

“I’m so sorry!!!! I know how deep that headache is! He’ll be waiting for you in heaven,” Kimberly Schlapman of Little Big Town added, while her bandmate Karen Fairchild wrote, "So sorry Miranda ♥️"

After an influx of support, Miranda shared that she sang Waylon “High Note” by Brothers Osborne in his final moments. “Felt right,” she somberly concluded.

Sending Miranda all our love as her precious pup crosses the rainbow bridge.
