Cathy Chui continues to fight discrimination against people with AIDS
12 Nov – After ten years of working alongside the Chi Heng Foundation, model-actress Cathy Chui is still as determined in battling discrimination against people with AIDS.
As reported on Mingpao, the model, who appeared alongside husband Martin Lee at the Chi Heng Foundation's charity ball recently, shared that she was most impressed by a tragic family whom she visited in Anhui ten years ago.
Said Cathy, "The father of the family was infected through blood transfusions, and the whole family was discriminated against, eventually leading him to commit suicide. The wife was also seriously ill, causing much hardship to their two sons. I recently met the younger of the two brothers and happy to see their lives have now improved."
"I hope that more people will learn not to discriminate against AIDS patients," she added.
Aside from Chi Heng Foundation, the philanthropic beauty has also worked with numerous NGOs including the educational organisation Summerbridge Hong Kong, The Foundation for AIDS Research (amFAR), and Save the Children Fund.
Cathy also revealed that she recently took her three children to Cambodia as part of her work with Save the Children Fund, adding that the kids came home not feeling well after being exposed to the environment.
"But if you don't touch anything, you can't call it an experience. It's not a problem, as long as you get a good treatment and food when you return. The most important thing is the experience. I hope they will broaden their horizon," she said.
