Celeb Mentors Lose Their Cool Over 'Protégé' Wannabes

3 July 2012

MANILA, Philippines - Mentors of GMA-7 reality show "Protégé: The Battle For The Big Artista Break" seem to have a hard time dealing with some of the talents they meet in the ongoing auditions for the reality show.

Apparently some of the wannabes often come in unprepared and worse arrogant if all too presumptuous during their auditions causing some of the mentors, including Ricky Davao (Northern and Central Luzon), Phillip Salvador (Mindanao) and Gina Alajar (Southern Luzon) to lose their cool.

This was evident in the video footage of the auditions posted on the official Facebook fan page of the show recently, showing Davao seemingly scolding one talent for being too prissy, and for ostentatiously displaying a keen grasp of the English language.

"Arte-arte mo, Ingles ka ng Ingles hindi kita maintindihan. Tagalugin mo ako," Davao said.

Davao was also heard at one point exasperatedly telling a talent not to preempt him during the acting part of the audition.

"'Wag kang titigil hangga't hindi mo naririnig [na sinabi kong] 'cut,"' said he.

On a separate video uploaded on the same site, Alajar was seen barking on a male auditionee for delivering a halfhearted acting effort.

"Arte na ba 'yan?" said she.

Alajar also didn't take kindly to hopefuls who were too confident with their looks, putting them in their place with a rash one-liner or two.

"How old are you? Sixteen? Mukha ka nang 48," she scoffed at one female talent.

Salvador, on the other hand, got miffed when one of the auditionees seemed to be making fun of the q & a.

"Ganyan ka ba talaga sumagot?" said the multi-awarded actor, obviously still trying to manage his emotions.

But the talent seemingly didn't get the memo -- brashly retorting with a lilting: "oo."

Salvador then slammed his microphone and approached the startled guy, saying, "'Wag kang bastos sumagot!"

According to a release, "Protégé: The Battle For The Big Artista Break" aims to discover promising talents all over the archipelago who will eventually be groomed as the Kapuso Network's next batch of television sensations.

The auditions are but the beginning of the journey for the wannabes who will eventually be trimmed down to just 20 contestants.

Salvador, Alajar and Davao, together with Roderick Paulate, who handles the mega Manila area, and Jolina Magdangal (Visayas) are tasked to pick two boys and two girls each as their potential protégés.

They are to give professional guidance to these talents all through out the course of the show including having to advise them about their looks, over-all packaging and showmanship.

Two winners will be proclaimed during the finals night. At stake are P12 million worth of cash prizes and a management contract with GMA-7.

The show's judges are Bert de Leon, Cherie Gil and Joey de Leon.
