Here's how we kicked off our annual idea-packed show house—plus, the limoncello recipe you need to try from the events.
In case you missed the memo, this week we finally revealed our beautiful 2023 Real Simple Home after nearly a year of plenty of behind-the-scenes work. Because we were so excited to share these gorgeous spaces with the world, and to celebrate this momentous occasion, Real Simple hosted a few events where people got to check the home out IRL in Brooklyn, N.Y., and we think it's pretty safe to say everyone left in awe—and chock-full of ideas!
If you haven’t heard all about the Home yet, let me explain: We’ve been collaborating with top designers over the last nine months to transform a totally empty penthouse into the Real Simple Home for our October 2023 issue of the magazine. The apartment is located on the penthouse floor of the Quay Tower, which was developed by RAL development and Oliver's Realty Group and is sold and marketed by SERHANT. The stunning space features floor-to-ceiling windows and a roof deck with an unbeatable view of the New York skyline. Real Simple's editorial team and the talented designers debuted the redesigned penthouse to local industry colleagues over the course of two days.
This year's incredible roster of designers included Bobby Berk, host of Netflix's Queer Eye and author of Right at Home; Michelle Gage, creative director of Michelle Gage Interiors; Linda Hayslett, founder and principal designer of LH.Designs,; Megan Hopp, founder and principal of Megan Hopp Design; David Quarles IV, jewelry designer and founding designer of Studio 417; and Kim and Scott Vargo, the duo behind Yellow Brick Home.
Attendees were able to tour the home with Real Simple editors, take selfies in the disco ball-filled bathtub, and record a design “confessional” for Instagram. Tasty bites and beverages were eagerly consumed, including some very cute lobster rolls and refreshing homemade cocktails served up by Jenna Helwig, our food director.
While guests imbibed and nibbled away, there was one star beverage that stood out from the rest: the deliciously crisp limoncello spritz, and we’d be remiss not to share Jenna’s easy-peasy recipe:
2 tbsp limoncello
5 tbsp dry sparkling wine
3 tbsp club soda
1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
Rosemary sprig, for garnish
Lemon peel, for garnish
Directions: Fill a glass halfway with ice. Add the limoncello, sparkling wine, club soda, and fresh lemon juice. Stir to combine. Garnish with a rosemary sprig and lemon peel.
Now curl up with your spritz and check out the home online now or in the October issue of the magazine when it hits newsstands on Sept. 22.
