Green cars are becoming mainstream -- but not without a little help from some celebrity friends. Here, an overview of who's driving what around Hollywood, and further afield.
Jay Leno
Leno is famed as one of the most prolific car collectors in Hollywood, and he's turned over a newly green leaf in recent years. He has driven almost every EV on the market, but publicly declared his love for the Chevrolet Volt late last year -- after revealing that he hadn't tanked it in all the time he'd owned it.
George Clooney
George buys American and drives a Tesla Roadster, the $109,000 supercar produced by former Paypal exec Elon Musk.
Justin Bieber
The Fisker Karma was an 18th birthday present for the teen pop sensation from his manager, a publicity coup for Fisker Automotive.
James Blunt
British crooner James Blunt was one of the first test pilots for the electrified Mini Cooper.
Leonardo DiCaprio
DiCaprio has been among green vehicles' most high-profile champions since being driven to the Oscars in a Toyota Prius in 2008 -- he's since appeared in marketing material for Tesla but owns a Fisker Karma. Celeb pals Matt Damon, Ashton Kutcher and Al Gore are among the other owners.
Lance Armstrong
The Tour de France champ proudly promoted the Leaf for Nissan, becoming one of the vehicle's first US customers.
Alyssa Milano
Milano posted a picture of her new Nissan Leaf on Posterous straight after buying it -- reportedly, she was inspired to action by the Deep Horizon oil disaster. She's also believed to own a Chevrolet Volt.
Cameron Diaz
By some estimates over 70 Hollywood celebs have taken to the famously eco-friendly Toyota Prius, which first made its name in 2002 and has gone on to become the world's best-selling hybrid. Diaz is one of them -- so are Natalie Portman, Jeff Goldblum, Miley Cyrus, Julia Roberts, Will Ferrell, Jennifer Aniston, David Duchovny, Selma Hayek, Tom Hanks and Calista Flockhart.
Prince Charles
Queen Elizabeth's son is well known for his outspoken views on the environment, but at least he seems prepared to back up his statements with action -- his Aston Martin DB6 has been converted to run on bioethanol from surplus wine. It played a starring role in last year's royal wedding when Prince William took Kate for a spin down the mall, but Charles' other cars -- Jaguars, an Audi and a Range Rover -- run on used cooking fat.
