CEOs form group to boost minority hiring in New York

CEOs of American icons ranging from JPMorgan Chase to Amazon and Microsoft are banding together to employ more people from marginalized communities in New York City. The New York Jobs CEO Council they formed aims to hire 100,000 people from low income and Black, Latino and Asian communities by 2030.

The 27 CEOs will hook up with local educational institutions, community groups and nonprofits to prep New Yorkers for jobs that lead to stable careers.

Anti-racism protests sparked by the death of George Floyd have pressured American companies to do more to provide minorities with access to opportunities. In an opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal, JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, wrote, “Today’s economic crisis is exacerbating economic and racial divides and exposing systemic barriers to opportunity.”

The Council, which Dimon co-chairs, also seeks to help 25,000 students at the City University of New York secure entry-level jobs and apprenticeships at member companies.
