Chanel No. 5 perfume might be discontinued for a very strange reason
When we think classic perfumes, we think Chanel No. 5. Whether your mom rocked Chanel or it’s your personal favorite, it’s arguably the most famous perfume of all time. But, unfortunately, Chanel No. 5 may be discontinued, and for a pretty bizarre reason.
So why is Chanel No. 5 in danger? According to NYMag, a new train route may cut through the flower fields in France that bring us the famous fragrant scent in each Chanel perfume bottle.
Apparently, rumor has it that nearly 1,000 jasmine flowers go into creating the widely beloved perfume. But these French infrastructure plans just might take it all down. In an attempt to cut travel times with this route, the end result may be halting the production of Chanel No. 5. Not to mention all those flowers. Our hearts!
According to The Telegraph, Chanel chooses to grow its flowers in Grasse because,
“Unique and exception quality of the flowers harvested there that are indispensable to the creation of Chanel perfumes.
As a result, it threatens to leave the area and find somewhere else to grow its flowers.
“The construction of a viaduct and the regular passage of high-speed trains over these fields of flowers would force Chanel to cease supporting its artisanal activities in the region.”
Welp. Talk about unexpected drama! We just hope things work out so that, no matter what, we don’t have to say goodbye to this iconic scent.
