Changi Airport is world's best airport again

Singapore Changi Airport has been voted the world's best airport for the fifth time at the 2014 World Airport Awards in Barcelona, Spain. This is first time the airport has won the award twice in a row.

"Winning this prestigious award for the second year in a row, Changi Airport Singapore is showing itself to be much more than an airport," said Edward Plaisted, Chief Executive Officer at Skytrax, a United Kingdom-based consultancy which runs an airline and airport review and ranking site.

"[It] offers a travel experience in itself and continues to develop its quality standards to be named the world's favorite airport again. Changi Airport is a well-known leader and innovator for the airport industry and genuinely delights and surprises travellers who are lucky enough to enjoy the airport facilities. Changi Airport demonstrates how to make the airport experience an enjoyable part of the journey that is so important in today's fast-moving world," he added.

The airport also received the Best Airport for Leisure Amenities award for to its "vast array of leisure and entertainment facilities."

Lee Seow Hiang, Chief Executive Officer at Changi Airport Group said, "We are honored to be named Skytrax World Best Airport for the second consecutive year. We appreciate the support given to us by travelers from around the world. This recognition is great motivation for us and spurs us to continue to aim higher."

In 2013, Singapore Changi Airport registered a strong performance, handling a record 53.7 million passengers and 343,800 landings and take-offs during the year. According to the group, this was an increase of 5.0 percent and 5.9 percent respectively.

The World Airport Awards are the most prestigious accolades for the airport industry, voted by customers in the largest, annual global airport customer satisfaction survey that evaluates customer satisfaction across 39 key performance indicators for airport service and product.
