Charlie Puth and his fans paid tribute to the late actor Matthew Perry by singing the "Friends" theme song during Puth's performance on Sunday.
Perry, 54, played Chandler Bing on the popular NBC series from 1994 to 2004.
The moment took place at Puth's concert in Australia following reports that Perry died Saturday at his Los Angeles home from an apparent drowning.
Puth, 31, is scheduled to perform two back-to-back shows at the Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne on Sunday and Monday, according to the venue's website.
Footage shared by TikToker @gracefrost_music showed Puth, 31, onstage playing the first verse of the sitcom's widely popular theme song, "I'll Be There for You" by The Rembrandts. The video has over 700,000 likes, 27,000 shares, and 2,000 comments as of Sunday.
Puth allowed fans to belt the theme song's verse before joining in during the chorus. Afterward, he transitioned to his 2015 hit song, "See You Again." Puth recorded the song with rapper Wiz Khalifa for the "Furious 7" soundtrack as a tribute to the late actor Paul Walker who starred in the movie franchise and died in a 2013 car crash.
In the comment section, fans praised Puth for honoring Perry.
"My heart is so full and broken all at once," one user wrote.
Fans of Puth know that he's a self-declared "Friends" superfan who was quizzed about the series by Courteney Cox — who played Monica Geller — in October 2019. That same month, Puth appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" and met Jennifer Aniston, who played Rachel Green.
According to the Los Angeles Times, authorities responded to Perry's home around 4 p.m. on Saturday. Law enforcement sources who spoke to the outlet on the condition of anonymity due to the ongoing investigation did not cite a cause of death, indicated that no foul play was suspected, and said no drugs were found at the scene.
Celebrities paid tribute to Perry following his death, including his "Friends" castmates Morgan Fairchild and Maggie Wheeler.
