Charlize Theron and Anya Taylor-Joy Are Still 'Trying to Connect' to Talk “Mad Max” Experiences
Theron also confirmed that she watched 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga' and described it as “amazing” and a “beautiful film”
Charlize Theron and Anya Taylor-Joy are still trying to sync up their schedules for a Mad Max film chat.
The Atomic Blonde actress, 48, revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that she and Taylor-Joy have been meaning to discuss their experiences shooting Mad Max: Fury Road and the recently released Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga — but can’t seem to catch each other at the right time.
“We’ve really been trying to connect,” Theron said. “It’s been one of those — we can actually make a comedy out of it. We keep running into each other and in places when we don’t have time to really talk to each other, so we’re constantly like, ‘Oh my god, OK, let’s get together!’ And then life takes over.”
“But it will happen when it’s right,” she added.
The Oscar winner also admitted that she has seen the Mad Max prequel, which Taylor-Joy stars in as a younger version of her Fury Road character Furiosa, and described it as “amazing” and a “beautiful film.”
Ahead of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga's premiere in May, The Queen’s Gambit actress revealed that she had received Theron’s blessing to play Furiosa.
“She’s been so classy and kind in letting me go and do it,” Taylor-Joy told Empire in March 2023. “But I feel very lucky that, from the second I read the script, I just knew this person. I felt so fiercely protective over Furiosa, and fiercely protective of her interests.”

Filmmaker George Miller, who created the film franchise, previously revealed to Empire that Theron originally inspired him to make a Mad Max film highlighting Furiosa’s backstory. “She said, ‘Please, George, can we make this first?,’ ” he recalled of her initial reaction to reading Furiosa's script while preparing to play the character in the 2015 film.
Despite not getting the opportunity to play Furiosa for the prequel, the actress voiced her support for Taylor-Joy taking over the role during a December 2022 interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

"Listen, I’m not mad about [a Mad Max prequel]. One of the greatest f------ actresses is picking up something that I only imagined," she said, adding, "It's always tricky," when asked if Taylor-Joy had reached out to her yet about playing the same role.
"Who wants to pick up the phone and say, like, 'Hey, we’re going to go do this without you,' " she added at the time. "No one wants to do that. So, I totally get that. And I love George. I know I’ll talk to him again. I think it was just too hard."
