Mookata restaurants are everywhere in Singapore these days, and recently cheese mookata buffets seem to have taken hold of the food scene. We all love a good unlimited selection and Cheese Story Mookata Buffet offers free flow oysters in their seafood lineup.

It can be a little hard to find the shop, especially since it’s tucked away in a corner of Golden Mile Complex, with many other mookata restaurants around. But once you find it and take a seat, that’s when the real fun begins.

I’m a huge seafood lover, so I tend to head straight for the crustaceans at buffets and this was no different. I was delighted by the amount of seafood on offer, in addition to all the standard meats and other ingredients.

The prawns and crayfish were big and fresh, as were the oysters that disappeared off the station as soon as they were replenished. I was a little puzzled and disappointed at the lack of satay sticks or toothpicks. However, that meant that it would be almost impossible to eat the conch, or more commonly known as gong gong.

The staff are extremely attentive, refilling stations once they start to run low, and the waiters will even help you to peel the crayfish before you grill them. What impressed me most however, was when a waiter came to our table and offered us a plate full of crayfish, peeled and ready to go on the grill, just as I was thinking of going to get more.

Cheese Story Mookata Buffet definitely gets two thumbs up from me for the service.

The soup provided is a light chicken stock that easily takes on the taste of the seafood and meats, and I like the fact that there are no holes in the grill. By the end of our meal, we had used the soup to deglaze the grill several times, resulting in a rich, dark brown soup that was delicious.

The seafood was sweet and juicy, but remember to keep an eye on them because it’s easy for them to overcook and dry out on the grill. I usually eat oysters raw so it took a little trial and error, but the oysters were soft and delicious when I got the hang of grilling them.

Unlike other mookata places, Cheese Story Mookata Buffet doesn’t use pork lard to oil the grill. It might not be too traditional, but I found that the absence of pork lard didn’t affect the taste or experience as much as I expected it to.

The cheese dip is a blend of nacho cheese and mozzarella, resulting in a tasty and stringy mixture. It went well with everything, from the meats to the seafood. I particularly enjoyed the beef slices grilled and dipped in it, with the taste of the beef still prominent over the saltiness of the cheese.

A satay dipping sauce was also provided, and it worked well with the grilled meats. Just remember to give it a good stir so that the peanut bits below are incorporated properly into the main body of the sauce!

Overall, I felt that this was a great buffet for $29.90, considering that you get free flow oysters in addition to all the other seafood like crabs and scallops. The restaurant also opens until 6am, so if you and your supper kakis like to stay out late chatting (and eating of course), this is the place for you.
