Chelsea have confirmed Thiago Silva will miss tomorrow’s trip to Brentford.

The 37-year-old defender is flying back to the UK from South America after captaining Brazil in their 4-1 win over Uruguay in a World Cup qualifier in Manaus on Friday morning.

Thomas Tuchel said before the international break that he did not expect Silva to be available.

Tottenham hope their four South American players will be available to face Newcastle on Sunday and Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa wants to play Raphinha against Southampton tomorrow after he scored twice for Brazil against Uruguay.

But Chelsea have confirmed they will be without Silva against Brentford.

On their website, Chelsea said: “The Blues will be without the experienced Thiago Silva, whose match for Brazil in Uruguay did not finish until 3.30am Friday UK time. Providing Toni Rudiger is available the resources at centre-back are there to cope.”

Chelsea, though, will have N’Golo Kante and Reece James available again in a boost for Tuchel.

The Blues have said the paid “were restored to readiness in midweek”.
