Bayern Munich CEO Carl-Heinz Rummenigge has ruled his side out of the running to sign Chelsea target Kai Havertz this summer.

Having already completed the signings of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and Timo Werner from RB Leipzig, Havertz – along with Leicester City left back Ben Chilwell – is a top target of Chelsea as Frank Lampard continues his rebuild ahead of next season.

Bayern have also been closely linked with the rising star of German football. But having this week signed Leroy Sane from Manchester City, the German champions will not be in a position to sign the Bayer Leverkusen star this summer, seemingly handing a huge advantage to Chelsea.

Rummenigge told Bild: “We have a really big financial challenge ahead of us. Even if we wanted the player, we could not finance it this year.”

In a further boost for the Blues, Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller has revealed there is an agreement in place for Havertz to leave this summer – providing certain conditions are met.

"There is nothing specific, nothing to report. As of now, he is our player," Voller told Bild.

"We have our ideas, we know what he can do. I personally hope that he stays one more year. We have an agreement: if it works, he can go this summer."
