Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has played down suggestions his team are merely a counter-attacking one.

Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino recently labeled the European champions as “defensive” prefering to play “in transition and on the counter” despite the fact they have already scored 49 goals in 23 across all competitions thus far.

In a Premier League context, they average 58.% possession and that increases up to 67.9% in the Champions League, albeit the group stages are largely irrelevant once the tournament progresses.

On Tuesday night, Tuchel oversaw a 4-0 thrashing of Juventus at Stamford Bridge and duly insisted he did not listen to what was said about his team and talked of their front-foot approach.

“I don’t listen too much to what people say about us, I feel into my team and into my staff with what we feel comfortable,” he said.

“I felt from day one very brave in our approach to defending. We have instantly a lot of ball possession, always.

“So we try to create chances and to be dangerous.

“Then came a new season and we’ve tried to recreate it because the group is a bit new.”
