New Chief Justice receives instrument of appointment from Agong

KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V today presented the instrument of appointment as the Chief Justice of Malaysia to Tan Sri Md Raus Sharif at Istana Negara here.

Sultan Muhammad V also presented the instruments of appointment as Court of Appeal President and Chief Judge of Malaya to Tan Sri Zulkefli Ahmad Makinudin and Tan Sri Ahmad Maarop, respectively.

Md Raus, 66, who was previously Court of Appeal President, replaced Tun Arifin Zakaria who went on retirement on March 30.

Zulkefli, 66, was Chief Judge of Malaya for six years before being appointed to the new post, while Ahmad, 64, was a Federal Court since 2011.

All appointments took effect on April 1.

Among those present at the ceremony today were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa, Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali and Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Tan Sri Richard Malanjum.--BERNAMA
