China Airlines launches flights between Taoyuan & Takamatsu

Taipei (The China Post/ANN) - China Airlines (CAL), Taiwan's largest international airline, has recently launched flights between Taoyuan and Takamatsu, making it the first Taiwanese airline to offer regular flights to Shikoku, Japan, according to a press release from CAL.

Flights depart every Thursday and Sunday, serviced by Boeing 737-800 aircraft equipped with eight business-class seats and 150 economy-class seats.

Takamatsu is a port city located in Kagawa Prefecture, on the northern tip of Shikoku. In addition to being the political and economic center of Shikoku, Takamatsu is also the island's transportation hub due to its proximity to Honshu, the main island of Japan.

The commencement of the new flight service coincided with the Setouchi International Art Festival that began on March 20 across Takamatsu port and other islands around the Seto Inland Sea. The inland sea serves as a breathtaking natural backdrop for contemporary artwork from around the world, making Art Setouchi one of the region's most popular tourist attractions.

CAL's Taoyuan-Takamatsu flights enhance passenger experience by significantly reducing transit times. To celebrate the new service, CAL is offering special fares on its website starting at NT$9,200 or $300 (excluding tax). In addition,

Dynasty Package is offering special packages including four days and two nights' accommodation in Takamatsu starting at NT$11,700, and a Tadao Ando architecture-themed package with four days and one night's accommodation in Naoshima starting at NT$15,100.

Passengers can book flights on the CAL website at: www.china-airlines.com, or get more information by calling travel agencies or China Airlines Customer Service Center at (02) 412-9000.

Meanwhile, CAL will also expand the frequency of its existing Japan services over the next few years. Starting April, for instance, CAL will operate four weekly flights between Taoyuan and Shizuoka instead of three, and four weekly Taoyuan-Toyama flights instead of two. In July, CAL will expand its Kaohsiung-Osaka service to five weekly flights from two.
