A Chinese national who allegedly left a luggage bag unattended at Hougang MRT station in April was charged in court on Wednesday (17 May) with causing annoyance to the public.

Wang Jianpo, 39, has been accused of leaving a blue luggage unattended on the train platform on the afternoon of 2 April, leading to a security alert.

Police investigated the unattended item, and the train service in both directions was paused. Commuters were also asked to leave the station. After police checked the bag, they found only household items in it.

Wang will appear in court again on 9 June. He told the court he will plead guilty to the offence. If convicted of causing a public nuisance, he faces a fine of up to $1,000.
