Chinese New Year: Restaurants and eateries open during the public holidays

It can be such a buzzkill to find your favourite eatery closed during the Lunar New Year. But don’t fret; here’s a handy list of some of the dining options that will be open during the public holidays.

Umi sushi

If you need to buy a last-minute yu sheng takeaway or are craving sushi and sashimi, head over to this Japanese chain. Selected outlets including 313@Somerset, AMK Hub, Holland Village MRT, Hougang Mall and East Point Mall will stay open during the Chinese New Year public holidays. Its delivery service is also available during the festive period, though a surcharge will be imposed on these orders.

Changi Airport

Should your traditional family insist on Chinese-style cuisine during the public holidays, your best best may be at the airport. The airport outlets of restaurant chains such as Paradise Group, Crystal Jade and Dian Xiao Er will still be open at its usual hours during the Chinese New Year holidays.

Pies & Coffee

For some, piping hot pies might be a welcome change from the Chinese food during the festive holidays. The restaurant specialises in hearty pies made with buttery shortcrust pastries will stay open during the public holidays.

Nan Hwa Fishboat

For heartwarming bowls of soup, head to this restaurant, which specialises in fish head steamboat served over a charcoal fire. Besides its star dish, the restaurant’s new branch at Owen Road also serves zi char dishes such as champagne pork ribs, black pepper crayfish and kampong sambal sotong.

Nigiro Café at Eat at Seven

This café specialises in dishes that combine a mix of Japanese and western cuisines, such as pastas, fruit-topped dessert pizzas, grilled meats paired with soups and salads as well as breakfast items such as eggs benedict. If you’re hungry for more options, its sister restaurants in Eat at Seven dining concept at Suntec City are also open during the Chinese New Year holidays.

MEATliquor

Those hungry for burgers will be pleased to know this restaurant is open during the public holidays. Besides the burgers that this London-based restaurant chain is known for, be sure to try the localised dishes such as its ‘shambal fries’ (fries covered in a sambal-style sauce and egg).

Oxwell & Co

The bar section of this British-style bar and restaurant will remain open for the Lunar New Year to serve bar bites for those hankering for drinks and light eats. Dishes on the bar menu include pulled pork bun, salt and pepper squid, as well as items in more sizeable portions such as the Oxwell beef burger and fish and chips.

Tanjong Beach Club

If lounging by the beach sounds like your perfect idea of how you should spend your public holiday, check out this beach and restaurant and bar, which will be open for brunch and dinner from 8-9 Feb. Treat yourself to fresh oysters, lobster buns and seafood platters; families will be pleased to know there’s a kids-friendly brunch menu for the little ones too.

Jones the Grocer

Those craving brunch food should head to the Australian-style gourmet grocer and restaurant. Its outlets at Dempsey Hill and Mandarin Gallery will both stay open at their usual hours during the public holidays.
