Chow Yun Fat hates gambling

22 Jan – Despite reprising his role as the God of Gamblers, Hong Kong actor Chow Yun Fat revealed that he hated gambling ever since he was a child.

Mingpao reported that the actor, who was in Beijing on 20 January to promote his new film, "From Vegas to Macau", stated, "My father was a gambler and lost all of his money. I grew up hating it."

Chow admitted that it was ironic that he was offered to play a God of Gambler by Wong Jing when he became an actor, and even returned to reprise the famous character in the new movie.

He light-heartedly added, "So you can say that I am the most fake God of Gambler."

Chow Yun Fat also revealed that he and Nicholas Tse will form a gambling team in the movie, and said, "Years ago, [Nicholas' father] Patrick Tse and I worked together on "The Shell Game II" where I played his disciple. Now his son is playing my disciple instead. It must have been [director] Wong Jing's intention all along."

Wong Jing agreed, and admitted that he intended to make some connection since Chow once said that Nicholas Tse will be one of the most important players in Hong Kong film industry in 30 years.
