Chris Rock has revealed that he tried to get Cardi B her own comedy show before she was a famous rapper.

Appearing on The Tonight Show, the stand-up comedian told host Jimmy Fallon that he was initially introduced to Cardi by his children and had seen a comedy talent in her.

“I saw on some YouTube thing, my kids showed me this Cardi B girl,” Rock said. “She didn’t have a record out or anything, I was like, ‘OK, we should do a show with her.’”

He continued: “We went, me, Cardi B and her management, to get a show going and it just never happened. She told me about her rap at the time, I was like, ‘Yeah yeah, that’s good. Anyway, you’re a comedy star.”

Comparing the “WAP” musician to comedians Dave Chappelle and Bill Burr, Rock said that Cardi was “the funniest woman, or one of the funniest people”.

“It’s like Chappelle, Cardi, you know what I mean,” he argued. “Like, in the standings right now, who are the funniest people in the world? Cardi’s right up there. She’s neck and neck with Bill Burr.”

Earlier this month, Rock defended Fallon after a clip reemerged of the late night presenter wearing blackface while impersonating him on Saturday Night Live.

“I’m friends with Jimmy,” Rock said. “Jimmy’s a great guy. And he didn’t mean anything. A lot of people want to say intention doesn’t matter, but it does. And I don’t think Jimmy Fallon intended to hurt me. And he didn’t.”
