Christian Louboutin unveils lunar-inspired capsule collection for Spring/Summer 2016

Christian Louboutin has revealed a new Spring/Summer 2016 collection inspired by the power of the moon.

The "Clair de Lune" capsule collection features styles for both men and women, with each style adorned with crystals in a prism of rich, sparking colors. Gems used include ruby, rose and tangerine, contrasted against a cooler underbelly that emits cerulean and silver tones.

The shoes were created using a unique strass method and a new approach to crystal application, using four sizes of crystals in 11 different colors. Crystals were hand-placed in colorful clusters or all over the shoe, against materials such as a jet black veau velours and roccia python. The hand-applied strass is designed to emulate the effect of moonlight dancing over flowers in a field, with orbs of obscured, multifaceted light conjuring romance.

Each pair of shoes features crystals meticulously placed on its right and left side as mirror images of one another -- like rays of light beaming back and forth.

Paper Fashion website illustrator Katie Rodgers has also worked with the shoe label to create a series of hand-painted watercolor illustrations and gifs that reference the collection's inspiration. The artwork features the shoes floating like comets across a moonlit sky.

Clair de Lune is available in a full range of sneakers, flats, pumps and platforms, both online at ChristianLouboutin.com and in select Christian Louboutin boutiques around the world.
