CIMB Cycle 2017 kicks off in Seri Menanti with 1,300 riders

SERI MENANTI: The inaugural CIMB Cycle 2017 event kicked off this morning with over 1,300 cyclists from across the country vying for the RM37,000 in cash, trophies and prizes to be given out to teams and individuals finishing in the top three and top five positions, respectively.

Designed to bring together cycling enthusiasts and casual riders from all over Malaysia, the event was flagged off by Negri Sembilan Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir and Tunku Ampuan Besar Tengku Aishah Rohani Tengku Besar Mahmud at 7.30am.

The event was also graced by CIMB Cycle ambassadors – Olympians and national cyclists "Pocket Rocket Man" Azizulhasni Awang and Fatehah Mustapa.

"We plan to make CIMB Cycle a yearly event, and look forward to having it at different locations within Malaysia and the region," said Zafrul.

The race is split into two categories – the 120km Endurance race and the 35km Challenge ride.

The Endurance cyclists will ride through Kuala Pilah, Batu Kikir and Simpang Pertang, which offers a good mix of flats, steep and rolling terrain; while the Challenge participants will ride through Seri Menanti for a shorter distance.

Seri Menanti was selected as the venue for the inaugural event as it closely resembles one of the routes of the Tour De Langkawi.

In conjunction with CIMB Cycle 2017, CIMB Foundation donated 200 bicycles to students from low income families within the Kuala Pilah district.
