Low-cost air carrier PT Citilink Indonesia is currently exploring options for international routes from Jakarta to Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia.

Citilink president director M. Arif Wibowo told kontan.co.id that its expansion to international routes was part of Citilink’s efforts to realize its low-cost commitment. “Citilink hopes that the new international routes will strengthen Citilink’s brand as the low-cost carrier with the best services,” he said.

Citilink is currently serving 28 domestic routes with a total of 138 flights per day to 24 cities in Indonesia. The carrier has targeted to increase its flight frequency to 180 flights per day this year after it buys 32 additional aircraft. It previously announced plans to buy eight Airbus 320 planes.

Citilink served 5.4 million passengers in 2013 and targeted to fly another 6.2 million passengers this year. For the domestic market, Citilink is aiming to add additional routes to Surabaya in East Java, Balikpapan in East Kalimantan and Manado in North Sulawesi.
