Cocoon Capital appoints renowned branding consultant Martin Roll as senior advisor

Martin Roll will advise Cocoon Capital and its portfolio companies on matters such as strategy, global expansion, branding and marketing

Singapore-based venture capital firm Cocoon Capital today announced the appointment of leading business, branding, and marketing consultant Martin Roll as a senior advisor.

As the CEO of the Martin Roll Company, Roll brings in “more than” 25 years of board and C-suite counselling experience. He has been a business strategist, CEO mentor, and advisor to various Fortune 500 companies, Asian firms, and global family-owned businesses.

He teaches at leading global business school such as Nanyang Business School and INSEAD, and has spoken at several conferences about branding and marketing. He has also been a Senior Advisor to McKinsey & Company since 2015, and is an Associate Fellow at The Institute on Asian Consumer Insight (ACI).

Roll has also written and co-written bestselling books such as the Asian Brand Strategy and The Future of Branding.

Roll will advise Cocoon Capital and its portfolio companies on strategy, global expansion, branding and marketing.

“I have known and followed Cocoon Capital since its inception and I find their value-add and profile very fit for purpose in the emerging, digital Southeast Asian economy. I am particularly excited to advise young, online growth companies as they have an unprecedented opportunity to disrupt business-as-usual,” he said in a press statement.

“Asia will create the next frontier of global challenger brands, and I am honoured to help facilitate some of these journeys with Cocoon’s Managing Partners Michael Blakey and Will Klippgen,” he added.

Cocoon Capital itself targets early-stage tech investments across Southeast Asia, with focus on companies working in the software-as-a-service (SaaS), fintech, e-commerce, and other disruptive sectors.

Launching its US$7 million fund in December, the firm invests up to US$750,000 per company.

Some examples of its portfolio companies including Singapore-based events startup Hapz, e-commerce platform for electronics Poundit, and Vietnamese adtech startup Hiip.
