Composer Johan Nawawi dies at 51

PETALING JAYA: Composer Johan Nawawi, the husband of singer Nora Ariffin, died at the Sime Darby Medical Centre in Subang Jaya today. He was 51.

His eldest son Mohd Syakir Iman Johan, 24, said his father was admitted to the hospital at 11.30pm on Thursday after a high fever, but was pronounced dead of a suspected heart attack at 6.30am today.

Johan is best known for composing many of Nora’s songs, such as Satu, Desa Tercinta, Naluri and Samudera.

The composer who served as a music director at the National Arts, Culture and Heritage Academy (Aswara) since February is survived by Nora, 42, and their four children Mohd Syakir, 24, Mohd Alif, 18, Putri Nur Dahlia, 13, and Putri Nur Fatihah, 4.

He was buried at the Bukit Kiara Muslim Cemetery after Friday prayers, and his funeral was attended by Malaysian artistes including Datuk D J Dave, Datuk M Nasir, Nassier Wahab and Nabil Damanhuri.
