JOHOR BARU: Condolences have begun pouring in for the family of 11-year-old Mohamad Thaqif Amin Mihd Gaddafi, who died this afternoon.

The boy, who was allegedly beaten by a warden at a religious school in Kota Tinggi, died today without regaining consciousness at the Sultan Ismail Hospital.

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said he and the state government expressed their deepest sadness over Thaqif’s death.

“Let us recite the Al-Fatihah and pray that his soul will receive blessings from Allah and so that he is placed among the pious.

“I also urge the public to be calm and refrain from speculating on the case which would complicate matters,” he said in a statement.

He said that all the related authorities should be allowed to conduct their respective in-depth investigations.

Johor Islamic Religious Council adviser, Datuk Noh Gadot also visited the family at the High Dependency Ward of the hospital, before the body was sent for a post-mortem.

State Health, Environment, Education and Information Committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat was also seen visiting Thaqif's family at the hospital.

Ayub said Thaqif’s body would need to be thoroughly cleaned because of the bacterial infection he had suffered.

He said the process would take time and this may delay when his body would be released to his family.

"We estimate that the body can only be claimed by the family at 8pm, for the burial at Felda Aping Timur in Kota Tinggi," he said when met at the hospital.

Ayub had earlier said that the Johor government via the Johor Islamic Religious Council will provide aid to ease the burden of the family in this difficult time.
