Who Is Conjoined Twin Abby Hensel’s Husband? All About Josh Bowling
Abby Hensel, known for her life with her twin Brittany, married Josh Bowling in 2021
Abby Hensel, best known alongside her conjoined twin sister Brittany, has been married since 2021. However, the world only found out three years later.
The Abby & Brittany star married her husband, Josh Bowling, in November 2021, but has lived out of the public eye since. The Hensel twins first gained attention when they appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 1996. Then, in 2012, TLC aired the reality series Abby & Brittany, which documented their experiences as they graduated with degrees in education, traveled through Europe and began their careers as teachers.
The news of Abby’s wedding reignited public interest in their lives, with TODAY first breaking the story in March 2024, citing public records that Abby and Bowling tied the knot three years prior.
He and the Hensels, who are dicephalus conjoined twins meaning they have two heads but one torso and share organs and body parts below the waist, live together in Minnesota, where the sisters were born and raised. While the Hensels have maintained their careers as teachers, Bowling is a U.S. Army veteran and a registered nurse.
So who is Abby Hensel's husband? Here’s everything to know about Josh Bowling.
He became a registered nurse after serving in the U.S. Army
Born in Tennessee, Bowling is a decorated veteran who served as a healthcare specialist, or a combat medic, in the U.S. Army.
During his service, he was deployed with the 1st Cavalry Division to Iraq and Afghanistan. After his military service, Bowling pursued a career in healthcare as a registered nurse in Minnesota, where he now works in providing support to fellow veterans in hospice.
"I dealt with a lot of death and dying — the bad version of it," Bowling told The Minnesota Star Tribune in 2021.
Hospice care, which he first experienced during training for his registered nursing license, "felt like a calling," he said.
"If there's the ability to give someone a peaceful death rather than what I was accustomed to, I was interested in that," he said.
Bowling and Abby married in 2021
Abby and Bowling quietly tied the knot in 2021 in a small ceremony attended by close family and friends. However, their nuptials were only made public in March 2024.
The couple later shared moments from their wedding, including their first dance, which quickly went viral on TikTok. Abby also used a photo from their wedding as her Facebook profile picture.
Their first dance video went viral
In June 2024, the Hensel twins posted a TikTok video of Abby and Bowling's wedding dance, set to a remix of Adele’s "Rolling in the Deep."
In the clip, Abby and Brittany swayed side to side with their arms around Bowling’s neck as his hands rested on their waist. The dance floor was decorated with lights around the edge of the room to illuminate them.
The video has amassed more than 400 thousand views with thousands of comments. “I’m happy for her, I've watched them since [they were] babies,” one user wrote.
The June post followed another TikTok the twins posted in May of sweet snapshots from the wedding, including photos of the two in a bridal gown and posing with Bowling's daughter. "#forever," they simply captioned the post.
Bowling faced a paternity suit after his marriage to Abby
Before marrying Abby, Bowling was married to Annica Bowling in 2010. The couple were married for nine years before their split in 2019. In that time, they welcomed one daughter, Isabella, in 2016.
Per documents obtained by PEOPLE, two years into his marriage with Abby, Annica filed a paternity suit in October 2023 involving him and another man, Gavin Vatnsdal. The paternity suit is regarding Annica's second daughter, who was born in 2020 after her divorce from Bowling. The child was referred to as “Isabella’s half sister” and a “non-joint minor child” of the ex-couple in their 2022 divorce documents, but was not named in this suit as they are a minor.
The suit requested that both men submit DNA for testing concerning Annica’s second child, and a genetic test report was added to the file in March 2024, according to court records. Neither the details of the tests nor the results are available to the public.
Abby and Bowling live and work in Minnesota
The couple now enjoys a private life in Minnesota, where Abby and Brittany teach fifth grade. Occasionally, the twins share throwback clips from their television era and Bowling shares photos from his military days.
While Abby’s marriage brought them back into the spotlight, they continue to keep their personal lives private.
