Convicted thief gets 1 year's jail for attacking wife with parang


PETALING JAYA: A former car wash attendant, who attacked his wife with a parang, was jailed a year by the magistrate's court here yesterday.

Magistrate Salamiah Salleh meted out the punishment to M. Meganathan, 29, after the accused pleaded guilty to intentionally hurting his wife, G. Hemalatha, 24, with a parang.

She suffered cuts on her lips and right wrist in the incident at their home at Blok H, Taman Putra Damai, Jalan PJU1A/38, Ara Damansara here at 5pm on May 25 last year.

The court ordered the accused, who is also currently serving a three-year jail sentence for robbery, to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest on Aug 4.

Deputy public prosecutor Mary Phoon Keat Mee appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented.
