Cop injured in crash while trying to avoid hitting pile-up on NSE

KAMPAR: A police officer was seriously injured in an accident involving four vehicles including a lorry at KM300.4 (north-bound) of the North-South Expressway this morning.

Kampar police chief Supt Ng Kong Soon said Inspector A. K. Gopi Nayar, 29, who was attached with Brickfields district police headquarters was driving a Proton Persona, had tried to avoid three vehicles that had earlier involved in a collision.

"He lost control of his vehicle in the process and rammed the road divider on the left side of the highway.

"Initial investigation revealed that the lorry had earlier swerved and stopped on the middle lane after crashing onto the road divider.

"A Proton Iswara, that was heading towards Ipoh crashed into the lorry and spun twice before being hit by a coming Honda HRV. The accident had caused four others to suffer injuries including a passenger in the Proton Iswara," he said.

He said the victims were sent to Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB), Ipoh, for further treatment.

"Investigation is being carried out under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said in a statement.
