Cops get four day remand extension for driver in Baling fatal crash

ALOR STAR: Police were granted four-day remand extension against a female driver detained in connection with the Baling crash which killed a senior police officer and his wife last Tuesday.

The remand extension was obtained at the Sungai Petani magistrate's court today.

Baling police chief Superintendent Sharifudin Yusof said police needed more time to conclude the investigations before submitting the papers to the Deputy Public Prosecutor's office for further action.

He said the remand order against the 37-year-old woman expired on April 25.

"The case is being investigated under Section 44 of the Road Transport Act 1987 which carries a jail sentence of up to 10 years and a fine of no more than RM20,000 or both," he said when contacted.

It was reported that the woman was tested positive for methamphetamine when detained by police.

In the 7.15am incident, Assistant Superintendent Mohd Noor Mat Yaub, 38, and his wife, Suriya Abd Rahman, 37, were killed when their compact car was rear-ended by a Toyota Hilux.

The couple's four children survived the crash but suffered multiple injuries.
