SANDAKAN: Three teenagers who were deceived into prostitution were rescued by police from a hotel here.
Believed to be immigrants, the girls were lured via social media by an 18-year-old pimp, who promised them big sums of money to “serve” his clients.
Police rescued them and arrested the pimp at a hotel near the district police station two days ago.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azhar Hamin yesterday said the girls, aged between 15 and 17, had no valid documents.
Police believed they came from squatter colonies at Kampung Bukit, Kampung Sim-Sim and Kampung Mangkalinau here.
“These victims were exploited as they were promised big sums of money. Their clients were arranged via the WeChat social media application,” he said.
He said the suspect charged his clients RM180 and told the girls that the money was used to pay for their room and food.
“The balance would be distributed to the girls,” he said, adding that police were led to them following a public tip-off.
Azhar said the girls had been sent to a shelter pending investigations into the case.
The case is being investigated under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.
