GEORGE TOWN: Police smashed yet another drug trafficking syndicate and seized RM8.8 million worth of drugs in an operation in the state on Monday.
Penang police chief Datuk Seri A. Thaiveegan said policemen from Bukit Aman and the Penang anti-narcotics team launched raids at five locations between 12pm and 7.30pm.
They detained two men, aged 39 and 46.
The raids were conducted at the northeast district of Penang island including Jelutong and Gelugor.
“The total drugs seized include 163.8kg of syabu, 18.6kg ganja and 2.93 grams of heroin base.
“More arrests may follow if we have additional information pertaining the case.
“We have also yet to establish the links with previous drug seizures in recent days,” he told a press conference on Wednesday.
The duo have been remanded for seven days under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
