Cops spend 30 minutes getting Bintulu man down from traffic light

BINTULU: If you were driving along Jalan Tanjung Batu in Bintulu this morning and was caught in a hellish traffic jam, here’s who you can blame.

Around 11.30am today, a man in his 20s decided to climb a traffic light pole at the junction.

The man was previously spotted crossing the street while appearing to be engaged in a phone conversation.

A source said that the man, after crossing the road, proceeded to clamber up the pole.

“His puzzling act brought traffic to a halt. Motorists all slowed down their vehicles to catch a glimpse of what he was doing,” said the source.

Some motorists even stopped their cars to snap pictures or take a video of the unusual scene.

However, his stunt soon drew the attention of the police, who were alerted by members of the public.

The man, however, did not immediately come down from his perch. Policemen spent almost half an hour in their attempt to persuade him to come down.

He was immediately arrested as soon as he got down.

At press time, his motive for the stunt remains unknown. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
