Coronation Street stars Rob Mallard and Samia Longchambon discuss measles story
Coronation Street star Rob Mallard and Samia Longchambon have spoken about next week's tragic storyline for the first time.
Show bosses have revealed that an upsetting series of events will unfold on the cobbles after Daniel Osbourne's baby son Bertie is diagnosed with measles.
Viewers know that Bertie hasn't been given all of his vaccinations, as Daniel pulled him out of the medical centre when the youngster cried over his first jab.
When Daniel receives the news that Bertie has measles next week, he's devastated and blames himself.

As first revealed yesterday, things only get worse when pregnant Maria Connor suffers a miscarriage. She is told that the likely cause is that she has measles too, after coming into contact with Bertie.
Speaking about the storyline, Rob – who plays Daniel – explained: "Daniel immediately feels guilt and then fear, because it doesn't occur to him that it has gone beyond Bertie to begin with.
"He thinks that getting Bertie's jabs would have been something that Sinead would have been able to do without flinching, so he is ashamed of that failure. He doesn't realise the wider implications at all.
"Daniel didn't take Bertie back for his jabs because it was too upsetting for Daniel and he couldn't deal with how upset Bertie was.
"Bertie didn't really cry at all during Sinead's death, and now that she has gone, he is afraid of making Bertie cry because what if Sinead is the only thing that can stop Bertie from crying? He doesn't want to find out whether or not he will actually be able to calm him down."
Maria's partner Gary Windass (Mikey North) blames Daniel for their tragic loss in upcoming scenes, but a further discovery also shines new light on the situation.
Samia, who plays Maria, added: "She's very upset with Daniel that he didn't get Bertie's jabs done, but equally she's frustrated with her own mum because she finds out that she wasn't vaccinated as a child, so all this could have been prevented."
The ITV soap's research team have worked closely with NHS medical professionals to ensure that next week's scenes are portrayed accurately.
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
