SINGAPORE — More than 20 residents were evacuated, with four conveyed to hospital, following a fire along the corridor of a Tampines flat on Monday morning (15 April), said the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) in a Facebook post.

The SCDF said that it was alerted at about 9.15am to a fire at Block 492E Tampines Street 45, involving household items stacked along the corridor on the 11th floor.

Prior to its arrival, three Community First Responders had attempted to extinguish the fire using a hose reel. The fire was later extinguished by the SCDF with a water jet.

Several occupants from units near the fire were evacuated several by the SCDF, while about 20 residents from the 9th to 12th floors were evacuated by the police, said the SCDF.

A man and a boy were conveyed to Singapore General Hospital (SGH) and KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital for smoke inhalation. Two Community First Responders were also conveyed to SGH for the same reason, added SCDF.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. “Obstructing common areas can hamper firefighting efforts, evacuation and conveyance of patients during a medical emergency,” said SCDF.

“To report such hazards, call the Fire Hazard Reporting hotline at 1800 280 0000 or use the Fire Safety Feedback module on the myResponder mobile app.”
