Countdown to the World's 50 Best Restaurants awards

On Monday, the world will be told which restaurant is the best on the planet.

Since first launching in 2003, the World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards organized by the UK-based Restaurant magazine, has ranked the world’s top chefs and addresses into a tidy hierarchal list, as voted by hundreds of international critics, chefs and food experts.

Though somewhat controversial and divisive, the ranking has quickly become an influential career-catapulting list also used by foodie gourmands as an alternative reference to the traditional Michelin guides.

While the World’s 50 Best captures the zeitgeist of current culinary trends and considers the entire dining experience, the Michelin guides reward masterful cooking and execution, without regard to décor or service.
