COVID-19: 10 new cases detected in Singapore, including 7 imported
SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed 10 new cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore as of noon on Sunday (11 October), taking the country’s total cases to 57,876.
Of the new cases, three are residents at migrant worker dormitories and seven are imported.
There are no cases in the community. Overall, the number of new cases in the community has decreased from an average of two cases per day in the week before, to an average of one per day in the past week. The number of unlinked cases in the community has also decreased from an average of one case per day in the week before, to none in the past week.
Amongst the three cases residing in dormitories, two had been identified earlier as contacts of previous cases, and had already been quarantined to prevent further transmission. They were tested during quarantine to determine their status, even though they are asymptomatic. The remaining case was detected through bi-weekly rostered routine testing of workers living in dormitories.
Amongst the imported cases, cases 58028 and 58029 are Singapore permanent residents who returned from Indonesia. Cases 58022, 58024 and 58025 are work permit holders currently employed in Singapore who arrived from Malaysia and the Philippines. The remaining cases 58023 and 58030 are dependant’s pass holders who arrived from the Philippines and Saudi Arabia.
They had all been placed on 14-day Stay-Home Notice upon arrival in Singapore, and were tested while serving SHN even though all of them are asymptomatic.
99% of total cases have recovered, 1 in ICU
With seven more patients discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities on Sunday, 57,705 cases – or 99.7 per cent of the total – have fully recovered from the infection.
Most of the 44 hospitalised cases are stable or improving, while one is in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
A total of 100 patients with mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive are isolated and cared for at community facilities.
Apart from 27 patients who have died from COVID-19 complications, 15 others who tested positive for the virus were determined to have died from unrelated causes, including three whose deaths were attributed to a heart attack and another four, whose deaths were attributed to coronary heart disease.
