SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed the detection of 14 new cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore as of noon on Sunday (14 February), taking the country's total case count to 59,800.

All of the new cases are imported, said MOH in a news release. Of these cases, 13 had already been placed on Stay-Home Notice upon their arrival here.

The remaining case had tested negative for COVID-19 upon arriving in Singapore for a work project on 10 February. He was on a controlled itinerary during his stay here and subsequently tested positive for COVID-19 on 12 February during routine testing conducted for such travellers.

Details of the 14 imported cases

Among the 14 imported cases:

  • Cases 60219 and 60224 are Singapore permanent residents who returned from India and Malaysia.

  • Case 60222 is a long-term visit pass holder who arrived from the UK.

  • Eight are work permit holders who arrived from Indonesia, Japan and Myanmar, of whom five (Cases 60215, 60229, 60230, 60233 and 60236) are foreign domestic workers.

  • Cases 60216, 60218 and 60221 are short-term visit pass holders. Cases 60216 and 60221 arrived from India to visit family members who are Singapore permanent residents.

Case 60218, a 28-year-old male Dutch national, is the traveller who is in Singapore for a work project. He arrived from the Netherlands on 10 February, and tested negative for COVID-19 upon arrival in Singapore, the ministry said.

He was subsequently on a controlled itinerary, which was largely limited to his place of work on a vessel docked in Singapore and his accommodation. "As part of our regular testing of such travellers, he was tested again on 12 February and his test result came back positive for COVID-19 infection. He was asymptomatic at the time of testing, but developed a fever on 13 February," the ministry said. "His serology test result has come back negative, indicating that this is likely a current infection. Given his recent travel history, we have classified this as an imported case."

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has increased from two cases in the week before to seven cases in the past week, the MOH said. The number of unlinked cases in the community has also increased from two cases in the week before to four cases in the past week.

99% of total cases have recovered, 1 in ICU

With 17 more patients discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities on Sunday, 59,621 cases – or 99.6 per cent of the total – have fully recovered from the infection.

Most of the 32 hospitalised cases are stable or improving, and one in the intensive care unit.

A total of 118 patients – with mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive – are isolated and cared for at community facilities.

Apart from 29 patients who have died from COVID-19 complications, 15 others who tested positive for the virus were determined to have died from unrelated causes, including three whose deaths were attributed to a heart attack and another four, whose deaths were attributed to coronary heart disease.
