COVID-19: 313 new cases confirmed in Singapore including 5 imported
SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed 313 new COVID-19 cases in Singapore as of noon on Sunday (2 August), taking the country’s total to 52,825.
Of these cases, one was in the community, five were imported and 307 were foreign workers residing in dormitories.
The case in the community (No. 52875) is a Singaporean permanent resident who is a family member of a previously confirmed imported case (No. 52049) with recent travel history to India. As the latter is a minor who had been placed on Stay-Home Notice (SHN) upon arrival in Singapore, the 33-year-old PR had requested to be isolated at the dedicated SHN facility with him. She became symptomatic during isolation, and was tested to determine her status.
Among the five imported cases, cases 52858 and 52878 are work pass holders who are currently employed in Singapore, and had arrived from India on 19 July and 21 July. Another two - cases 52857 and 52859 - are dependant’s pass holders who arrived from Japan and India on 21 July. The remaining case (No. 52838) is a student’s pass holder who arrived from Indonesia on 19 July. All of them had been placed on SHN upon arrival in Singapore, and were serving their SHN at dedicated facilities.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has decreased, from an average of seven cases per day in the week before, to an average of two per day in the past week. The number of unlinked cases in the community has also decreased, from an average of four cases per day in the week before, to an average of one per day in the past week.
There was no new location added to the list of public places visited by COVID-19 cases when they were infectious from 19 to 29 July.
With 186 more patients discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities on Monday, 46,926 cases – some 88.8 per cent of the tally – have fully recovered from the infection.
Most of the 109 hospitalised cases are stable or improving, while none are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
A total of 5,763 patients with mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive are isolated and cared for at community facilities.
Apart from 27 patients who have died from COVID-19 complications, 15 others who tested positive for the virus were determined to have died from unrelated causes, including three whose deaths were attributed to a heart attack and another four, whose deaths were attributed to coronary heart disease.
“Only cases where the attending doctor or pathologist attributes the primary or underlying cause of death as due to COVID-19 infection will be added to the COVID-19 death count,” said the MOH in previous press releases, adding that the method of assessment is consistent with international practices for classifying deaths.
