SINGAPORE — Four condominium residents and a management corporation have been fined for violating elevated safe distancing measures, said the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) on Monday (20 April).

The authority had conducted checks on over 230 strata-titled residential developments since the measures were implemented on 7 April, it said in a press release issued.

The four residents, all from different condominiums, had flouted regulations by either using condominium facilities or by failing to wear a mask, while the management corporation had not closed all its facilities. Each resident was fined $300 while the management corporation was fined $1,000.

One of the residents, from a condominium at Amber Road, had used the common gym. The same condominium’s management corporation was also found to have failed to close all its common facilities.

Another resident, who lives at a condominium at Irrawaddy Road, had used the swimming pool, while a resident from a condominium at Flora Road had brought her children to play by the pool. The fourth resident from a condominium at Sims Drive had failed to wear a mask at the premises’ main entrance.

Condominiums have been required to close their common facilities as part of enhanced safe distancing measures, to reduce interaction between residents from different households.

The BCA added that residents should ensure that there are no visitors to their homes and no social gatherings within the estate. Residents should also wear masks even within the premises.

“BCA urges (management corporations) and managing agents (MAs) to step up efforts in reminding residents the importance of complying with the elevated safe distancing measures in controlling the spread of COVID-19,” said the authority.

BCA added that condominium residents can report non-compliances to the management corporation or managing agents. The authority added that it has been receiving feedback on violations and that its officers will continue to conduct random checks on strata-titled residential developments during the circuit breaker period.
