COVID-19: Cinemas in Singapore to reopen on 13 July with added safety measures

SINGAPORE – Cinemas can now reopen from 13 July 2020 onwards, according to a statement on Infocomm Media Development Authority’s (IMDA) website today (3 July), but with added safety measures in place.

“Both IMDA and Singapore Film Commission (SFC) have assessed that the Mandatory Safe Management Measures for Cinemas meet the necessary precautionary measures for managing the COVID-19 related risks in cinemas. The Mandatory Safe Management Measures for cinemas are a result of consultation with key industry stakeholders,” the statement reads.

Some of these Mandatory Safe Management Measures for Cinemas include mandatory temperature checks before entering the mall and cinemas and one-metre social distancing seat configuration.

Groups of up to 5 persons (friends and family) are allowed to book tickets to sit together. Cinemas must ensure there is a one-metre distance between different groups.

Each theatre hall is allowed a maximum of 50 patrons.

Patrons are required to have masks on at all times except when they are consuming food and beverages inside the cinema hall. After eating/drinking, patron should put masks back on.

Cinema patrons are strongly encouraged to pre-order food and beverages online and collect the purchase on-site.

Golden Village Pictures announced today their July movie schedule which includes films like Low Season (Thailand) and The Bridge Curse (Taiwan), opening on 13 July.

Moviegoers would also be delighted to know that the local distributor will release the highly anticipated Korean zombie blockbuster Train to Busan: Peninsula on 15 July, the same day as in South Korea. The film is the follow-up to the 2016 film Train to Busan that raked in S$5.35 million at the box office and is the highest-grossing Korean movie in Singapore to date.

Universal Pictures and Paramount Pictures will also be re-releasing their blockbuster hits from 13 July onwards, in a media statement shared today (7 July).

The shows that are coming to us are Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Johnny English Strikes Again, Jason Bourne, Pacific Rim Uprising, Pitch Perfect 3, Skyscraper, 1917, Emma, Sonic The Hedgehog, The Invisible Man, and Trolls World Tour.
