SINGAPORE — Fewer people were caught flouting safe-distancing measures in the past week, compared to when the COVID-19 circuit breaker period began early last month.

In a post put up on his Facebook page on Tuesday (5 May), Environment and Water Resources Minister Masagos Zulkifli said that Singapore is seeing more compliance among the public with safe distancing measures and the wearing of masks.

“During our first week of enforcing safe distancing measures, there were 600 breaches. This rose to more than 1,300 the week after, before it dropped by half in the third week. Over the past week, the number of breaches has dropped further to about 500,” he said in his Facebook post.

“The number of people fined for not wearing face masks has also fallen, from about 430 in the first week, to about 270 in the past week.”

Masagos thanked the public for playing their part in observing the safe distancing measures, as well as the enforcement officers and ambassadors for their daily hard work to keep Singaporeans safe.
