SINGAPORE — The National University Health System (NUHS) is calling for volunteers to help support medical posts and swabbing operations at 14 foreign worker dormitories in the western part of Singapore.

In a Facebook post on Thursday (23 April), the group said healthcare professionals and members of the public are welcome to sign up. Positions available for volunteers include doctors, dentists, nurses, swabbers and operations support.

“As our volunteer partner, you will join us at our dormitories operations in the west to support the medical posts and swabbing which operate daily. Precautionary measures and safety training will be provided,” said NUHS, which operates several hospitals and polyclinics among other facilities.

In a poster shared in the post, NUHS said that close to 800 clinicians, nurses, allied health professionals, as well as operations and administrative staff from NUH, Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, Alexandra Hospital and others had volunteered for “Operation Dormitories”.

NUHS said that as the number of COVID-19 cases detected through testing among the workers’ rises, it will need to build up its medical and swab teams working at the dormitories under its care.

A message on the sign-up page for would-be volunteers said, “As more of our healthcare professionals are being deployed to help at the frontlines of our COVID-19 response, our healthcare workforce will need support to ensure that non-COVID patients are also well taken-care of.”
