COVID-19: Singapore reports 42 new cases, all imported
SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed the detection of another 42 new cases of COVID-19 infection as of noon on Sunday (10 January), taking the country’s total case count to 58,907.
All the cases are imported and have been placed on Stay-Home Notice (SHN) or isolated upon arrival in Singapore, said the ministry in a news release. There are no new cases of local transmissions.
Among the 42 cases:
• Cases 59146 and 59147 are Singaporeans, and Cases 59132 and 59148 are Singapore permanent residents who returned from Malaysia and India.
• Cases 59127, 59137, 59138, 59153, 59155 and 59159 are dependant’s pass holders who arrived from Austria, India, Nepal and the UAE.
• Cases 59128, 59129, 59160 and 59161 are work pass holders who arrived from India and the Philippines.
• 24 cases are work permit holders who arrived from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, of whom five (Cases 59142, 59150, 59151, 59152 and 59165) are foreign domestic workers.
• Case 59158 is along-term visit pass holder who arrived from India.
• Case 59157 is a short-term visit pass holder who arrived from India to visit his parent who is a Singapore permanent resident.
• Cases 59156 and 59168 are special pass holders who are sea crew. They arrived onboard separate vessels from Myanmar and Indonesia, and had not disembarked. They were tested onboard and were conveyed to the hospital when their COVID-19 tests came back positive.
Overall, the MOH said, the number of new cases in the community has decreased from 10 cases in the week before to eight cases in the past week. The number of unlinked cases in the community has increased, the ministry added, from four cases in the week before to five cases in the past week.
99% of total cases have recovered
With 25 more patients discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities on Sunday, 58,636 cases – or 99.5 per cent of the total – have fully recovered from the infection.
Most of the 60 hospitalised cases are stable or improving, and one is in the intensive care unit.
A total of 182 patients – with mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive – are isolated and cared for at community facilities.
Apart from 29 patients who have died from COVID-19 complications, 15 others who tested positive for the virus were determined to have died from unrelated causes, including three whose deaths were attributed to a heart attack and another four, whose deaths were attributed to coronary heart disease.
