All 19 new COVID cases in Singapore imported, including 3 babies
SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed 19 new COVID-19 cases in Singapore as of Tuesday (2 February), taking the country’s total case count to 59,584.
There are no new cases of locally-transmitted infection for the third day running.
“There are 19 imported cases, who had already been placed on Stay-Home Notice or isolated upon arrival in Singapore,” said the ministry.
“Amongst the new cases today, 16 are asymptomatic, and were detected from our proactive screening and surveillance, while three were symptomatic,” said the MOH.
Of the 19 imported cases, five are Singaporeans and three are permanent residents, including a two-year-old baby girl, who returned from Canada, India, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, and the US.
Three others are dependant’s pass holders – including a one-year-old baby boy and a three-year-old baby girl – who arrived from the United Arab Emirates.
Another two cases are work pass holders who arrived from Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.
An additional three are work permit holders who arrived from Bangladesh and Indonesia, of whom two are foreign domestic workers.
The remaining three are short-term visit pass holders, of whom two arrived from India and Indonesia respectively to visit their family members who are Singaporeans or PRs. The third case arrived from the US for a work project in Singapore.
All imported cases on Tuesday were placed on the stay-home notice or isolated upon their arrival here and were tested while serving the notice or during isolation.
The MOH noted that the number of new cases in the community has decreased from nine in the week before to three in the past week. The number of unlinked cases in the community has remained stable at two per week in the past two weeks.
99% of total cases have recovered
With 30 more patients discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities on Tuesday, 59,301 cases – or 99.5 per cent of the total – have fully recovered from the infection.
Most of the 44 hospitalised cases are stable or improving, and none in the intensive care unit.
A total of 210 patients – with mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive – are isolated and cared for at community facilities.
Apart from 29 patients who have died from COVID-19 complications, 15 others who tested positive for the virus were determined to have died from unrelated causes, including three whose deaths were attributed to a heart attack and another four, whose deaths were attributed to coronary heart disease.
Amongst the 218 confirmed cases reported from 27 January to 2 February, 122 cases have tested positive for their serology tests, 41 have tested negative, and 55 serology test results are pending.
