COVID-19: MOH to test individuals who boarded vessels linked to 2 community cases

SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health said on Thursday (31 December) it will start a special testing operation to test individuals who had boarded the vessels worked on by two COVID-19 community cases.

The first case, reported on Wednesday, was a Singapore permanent resident who works as a marine surveyor at Lloyd’s Register Singapore. His work entails working onboard vessels docked at Sembcorp Marine Admiralty Yard.

The other case is a 55 year-old Singaporean man who works as a harbour pilot at PSA Marine. His work entails going onboard vessels to navigate them through congested waters. He was confirmed as a COVID-19 case on Thursday.

Two family members linked to the Singapore PR and two relatives of the Singaporean man were also confirmed as community cases on Thursday.

“We will also test harbour pilots, marine surveyors and ship repair workers in the coming days, regardless of their rostered routine testing schedule, to determine their COVID-19 status. The relevant authorities will also review the need to tighten our precautionary measures for these workers,” MOH said.
