Covid UK news – live: Wales enters 17-day lockdown as death rate rises in England for first time since pandemic’s peak
Wales has entered a 17-year-day lockdown, with pubs, restaurants and non-essential shops ordered to close until 9 November in a bid to stem rising coronavirus infections.
Supermarkets have pulled non-essential items from sale to comply with new restrictions which came into force at 6pm on Friday, while mixing between households indoors has also been banned.
It comes as data shows the proportion of people dying of coronavirus compared with other causes of death has risen in England for the first time since April.
