Cristiano Ronaldo urges Man United players to take blame for Liverpool thumping: ‘It’s on us, only on us’

Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo says the players will shoulder the blame for yesterday’s hammering at the hands of Liverpool, insisting: “This is on us, only on us.”

United were utterly humiliated by their arch-rivals as Jurgen Klopp’s side ran riot to win 5-0 at Old Trafford.

Mo Salah continued his stunning form to become the first opposition player to ever score a Premier League hat-trick at Old Trafford, with Diogo Jota and Naby Keita also on the scoresheet.

However, Ronaldo, who had a would-be consolation chalked off by VAR, took to social media and insisted the players take responsibility.

“Sometimes the result is not the one we fight for. Sometimes the score is not the one we want. And this is on us, only on us, because there’s no one else to blame,” Ronaldo wrote on Instagram.

“Our fans were, once again, amazing in their constant support. They deserve better than this, much better, and it’s up to us to deliver. The time is now!”
