Crowds Spill Onto London Streets as Pubs Close Early Due to COVID Restrictions

Social media users were posting videos of busy London streets on the night of September 24, as new rules requiring pubs to shut at 10 pm came into effect.

Kirsty Lewis, who filmed this video, described it as: “The busiest I’ve seen central London in months.”

The UK raised its coronavirus alert level to 4 on September 21, meaning transmission of the virus was judged to be “high or rising exponentially”.

The country recorded 6,634 new cases of the virus on September 24, the highest daily total since the pandemic began.
