With CyberSecurity Needs At An All-Time High, Singtel Attracts Students With New Scholarship

Calling all students! SingTel is offering you a diploma scholarship programme – the SingTel Cadet Scholarship Programme. This unique scholarship programme, which commences this year, will be focused on fostering young talent in diplomas specializing in three areas – network engineering, cybersecurity and customer experience.

Partnering with Singapore Polytechnic and Republic Polytechnic, Singapore’s largest telco operator is striving towards providing more opportunities to budding students in Singapore.

The programme is set to offer 90 scholarships each year to the top students across the three courses.

The Scholarship Programme is also the first corporate scholarship that is fully aligned with Singapore’s SkillsFuture’s objectives, a national initiative aimed at creating an even more integrated system of education, training and career progression in Singapore.

As Mr Bill Chang, SingTel’s country chief officer for Singapore, said to The Straits Times: “Through our scholarships, we can help polytechnic students acquire relevant skills and develop them in critical roles within SingTel and across the broader industry.”

Not only will the students be equipped with industry-relevant training throughout the programme, they will also be given employment and progression opportunities as well as a chance to undergo internships while undertaking their diploma course.

“Our partnership with the educational institutions will help the nation build a strong talent pool in the ICT (information and communications technology) sector and enhance customers’ experience.” Added Mr Chang.

With such scholarship programmes in place and not forgetting the rapid growth in the ICT industry, an even stronger talent pool within Singapore’s ICT sector can be expected and demanded for in Singapore’s job sector.

Furthermore, with an increasing demand for greater cyber security, this programme could not have come in at a better time.

Aaron Levie, CEO of BOX, the free cloud storage and file sharing service, has also recently tweeted his opinion on cyber security.
